A 1.5 GW Solar Project is Being Sought by EWEC in Abu Dhabi

The 1.5 GW Khazna solar photovoltaic (PV) project, which is situated in the Al Khazna neighborhood of Abu Dhabi, is being developed. Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has released a request for proposals (RFP).

According to EWEC on Tuesday, the RFP is being sent to the 19 bidders who were chosen during the Expression of Interest (EOI) round and throughout the qualification process.

The person who emerges victorious in the competition will take charge of the design, funding, building, running, and upkeep of the solar project. The Abu Dhabi government would indirectly control the main interest in the project, with the developer owning up to 40% of it.

According to a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), EWEC, the only purchaser of power and water capacity in Abu Dhabi, will off-take the electricity generated by the Khazna facility.

The RFP replies are anticipated by EWEC for the third quarter of 2024. At a public gathering, the businesses and alliances that submitted proposals will be named.

Khazna Solar PV will increase EWEC's total installed solar PV capacity to 5.5 GW once it is operational. Following Noor Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra Solar PV, and Al Ajban Solar PV are three more sizable solar projects in the emirate that are being developed.
